S.E. Hinton was inspired to write "The Outsiders" due to her own experiences growing up in a divided community in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Witnessing the struggles between social classes, she wanted to portray the realities teenagers faced, especially issues of loyalty, identity, and the impacts of violence, making the story relatable and authentic.
